The Portuguese Carers Group is a support group made of people caring
for a relative or a friend with a disability. The participants of
the group speak Portuguese and are usually unable to communicate
in English.
The group come together once a fortnight to share their experiences
and caring skills, to assist themselves and the person for whom
they care. The group runs on the principle of self-help and mutual
support, 'sharing the caring' is a crucial aspect of the role of
support groups.
Beside meetings, the group also organises outings, and cultural
celebrations. The group has a Portuguese speaking leader and some
volunteers.
The group meets at St Pius Catholic Church, Edgeware Road, St.
Peters.
